If you are looking to sell or lease your property with a pool you will need to have a current pool safety certificate. For shared pools these need to be renewed every year, and for private pools every 2 years.

You can check for a current pool safety certificate by searching the Queensland Building and Construction Commision (QBCC) registration.

Q: What happens if my pool fails the inspection?

If you don’t pass your pool inspection you will not be able to receive your pool safety certificate until you have completed the necessary steps. Your pool inspector will inform you of the changes you need to make to ensure you adhere to your local pool safety regulations. You will be able to rebook your pool inspection after you have made the changes.

Q: What are the consequences of not having a Pool Safety Certificate?

If you don’t have a pool safety certificate you can receive on-the-spot fines for noncompliance. If you are planning to sell or lease your property with a pool you will need to obtain a current pool safety certificate as the homeowner, neglecting this can lead to fines up to $6,000 or more.

Your pool inspector will visit your pool on your chosen date and time and complete the inspection. If there are compliance issues, and you do not pass your inspection, you will be guided on how you can best improve your pool safety. Once your pool has the adequate safety measures in place, you will receive your pool safety certificate shortly after.
